In 2010, Monaco’s world-famous Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium celebrates its 100th birthday and is making a big artistic splash! Through September 30, acclaimed, controversial British artist Damien Hirst presents “Cornucopia”, featuring 60 works combining elements of art and science.
This unique exhibition include Hirst’s natural history series and other works covering 15 years of his impressive career including the white shark named The Immortal, 1997-2005 and an insect and butterfly collection called The Forgiveness from 2009.
This dramatic exposition will be followed, in November, by an 18-month-long showcase of works by French-Chinese visual artist, Huang Yong Ping, whose avant-garde creations include a giant 80-foot octopus. And in 2011, the remarkable works of Mark Dion, an equally celebrated contemporary American artist with “a keen interest in the science of life”, will be featured.
