Monaco Takes New York 2010

New York, October 16, 2010 – The much anticipated Monaco Takes New York events were back to great acclaim in 2010! To reinforce Monaco’s exceptional gastronomic status, Executive Chef Marcel Ravin of the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort presented his sublime Mediterranean-inspired menus for a week of culinary triumphs at The University Club of New York, culminating in a grand Gala Dinner held on October 15 under the High Patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco to benefit the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation-USA and the Princess Grace Foundation-USA.
Chef Ravin, along with his colleagues from Monaco, Philippe Brito and Anthony Ethuin, alongside the University Club’s Executive Chef Robert Bagli, prepared an imaginative and appetizing five-course menu, inspired by Monaco’s cuisine which was thoughtfully paired with a selection of fine French wines. Sommelier extraordinaire Nikos Antonakeas of Morrell Wine guided guests through a “blind” wine discovery tour throughout dinner. One of America’s superstars of cabaret, Karen Akers thrilled the audience with highlights from her cabaret songbook. Ms Akers has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe and has appeared in many prestigious venues from The White House to Carnegie Hall and New York’s Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel, where she is performing her latest show “Dancing on the Ceiling”, Akers Sings Rodgers & Hart, through October 23.

Guests had the chance to bid on one-of-a-kind prizes including a gold and diamond Piaget watch from the personal collection of Prince Albert, a dream vacation to Monaco, in-home Scotch whiskey master class with a Balvenie Distillery ambassador, a unique handcrafted carpet featuring Grace Kelly (from Monégasque designer, Fashion For Floors by Kamyar Moghadan) plus fabulous dinners at NYC restaurants and a selection of fine wines and Champagne.
Monaco’s unmatched reputation for elegant fundraising along with its legacy of environmental stewardship, united in one extraordinary evening on October 14 at a Tasting Reception to benefit both Foundations. This unique food and wine tasting featured some of the world’s finest chefs, wineries, and media partners who paid homage to the Principality at the pinnacle of New York’s venues at the Weather Room at the Top of The Rock.
A reception at Tesla’s sleek NYC showroom – along with test drives and rides in the electric super car – also gave guests a private preview of the Monaco “Green Gallery” – a trio of interactive cylindrical installations outlining the Principality’s legacy of environmental stewardship.
The weeklong series of events – which collectively raised more than $100,000, were organized by the Consulate General of Monaco and Monaco Government Tourist Office in New York along with Monte-Carlo SBM and esteemed partners and sponsors. www.monacotakesnewyork.com
