Representing the world’s largest consular community, the Dean of the New York City Consular Corps and Consul General of Monaco, the Honorable Maguy Maccario Doyle, addressed a recent gathering hosted by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in honor of 2012’s Consular Day in New York.
Consul General Maccario Doyle, along with Secretary-General of the United Nations, His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon, and the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Susan Rice, thanked the Mayor for hosting the Gracie Mansion reception, which was attended by more than 200 dignitaries from New York City’s consular community, diplomatic missions and various government agencies including the Police and Fire Departments.
Speaking on behalf of the 114 NYC-based consular missions, Ms. Maccario Doyle, who also serves as Minister Counselor and Director for the Monaco Government Tourist Office, said that as a diplomat in the “Capital of the World”, one is often challenged, never bored, constantly surprised and always inspired by the energy, creativity and achievements of the eight million who live in New York City.
“As our Government’s representatives, we are privileged to serve the finest, brightest minds of not only our own country men and women, but also those of our hosts here in the United States. Despite our many cultural, political and social diversities and our often differing opinions and ideals, we all strive to achieve excellence in our own fields.” She acknowledged Mayor Bloomberg for his administration’s support of the consular community and “for helping to foster such a wonderful environment in which all voices can be heard and respected.”
Ms. Maccario Doyle currently serves as the representative for the Europe II group on the Executive Committee of the Society of Foreign Consuls. She previously served as the organization’s President and has chaired many fund-raising events during her distinguished tenure. As the Society’s Vice President and Regional representative for Europe II since 1998, she served as the Gala Chair in 2000 when $450,000+ was raised to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Outreach Programs and Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. In 2005 she chaired the Event Committee for the Society’s 80th Anniversary Gala.
