The Palace of Monaco has today announced the engagement of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco to Miss Charlene Wittstock

Photo credit: Amedeo M.Turello/Palais Princier - MonacoJune 23, 2010 – Prince Albert, Alexandre, Louis, Pierre, the Sovereign Prince and Marquis des Baux (52) is the only son of American-born Princess Grace, nee Kelly, who died in September 1982. He acceded the throne in April 2005 following the death of his father, the late Prince Rainier III.

Miss Charlène Lynette Wittstock (32) is a South African national, who was born on 25 January 1978 in Zimbabwe. She is a former school teacher and Olympic swimmer. She has been living in Monaco since 2006.

“We are delighted to hear the wonderful news today. There is much to celebrate in the principality and I’m sure the people of Monaco are all looking forward to welcoming Miss Wittstock into their hearts, “ said Maguy Maccario, Consul General in New York.

“Because of Prince Albert’s American heritage and his days spent living, schooling and working here, his many friends here in New York, indeed across the United States, will celebrate and rejoice in this very special announcement with the people of Monaco.”
